The Spanish State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has confirmed the end of the heat wave that has kept Spain in an intense heatwave for the past few days, recording exceptionally high temperatures this weekend . The long-awaited break in temperatures is expected to begin Tuesday, according to Aemet, with a gradual drop that will be more noticeable starting Tuesday. However, it seems the thermal relief will not come only in the next few hours: Aemet has activated warnings for strong storms, which could include hail , in several areas of the country.
During the recent bout of extreme heat, which peaked this weekend, Spain has recorded exceptionally high temperatures. Localities such as Zaragoza, Lérida, and Córdoba recorded highs of 41°C, while in parts of Badajoz, Huelva, and Seville, temperatures exceeded 44°C. The situation has been further complicated by the torrid nights, where temperatures did not drop below 32–34°C in areas of the northeast, center, and south of the peninsula, as well as in southern Gran Canaria, making it difficult to rest and affecting the quality of life.

This Monday, the situation will not be much different, and the Aemet (Mexico City Meteorological Agency) maintains all autonomous communities on alert for maximum temperatures. The orange level, indicating significant risk, has been activated in Andalusia, Aragon, Catalonia, Extremadura, Galicia, Navarre, the Basque Country, La Rioja, and the Valencian Community. Meanwhile, the Canary Islands (specifically Gran Canaria), Asturias, the Balearic Islands, Cantabria, Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, Madrid, and Murcia remain on yellow alert .
Despite a slight drop in some areas, such as the northwest coast of Galicia, temperatures will remain significantly high, exceeding 34-36°C in the northeast of the peninsula, the northern plateau, and the southern half.

However, there seems to be some good news with the forecast that temperatures will begin a gradual decline starting this Tuesday. The key will be the entry of a cooler, wetter Atlantic mass through the northwest of the peninsula, expected on Wednesday. This change will bring more noticeable thermal relief, especially in the northern half of the country, putting an end to the most acute phase of this heat wave.
However, the end of extreme heat will give way to increased instability. The Aemet (Mexico City Meteorological Agency) has issued yellow warnings for storms in several regions for this Monday. In Castile and León and Catalonia , these storms could be especially intense, with the possibility of hail and very strong wind gusts . Showers and thunderstorms are also expected in Asturias, Cantabria, and Galicia , although with a lower probability of such severe phenomena.
